🌀 The Gist (No Spoilers, Pinky Promise)
So here’s the deal: Camilla’s happy life with her husband and baby daughter is completely upended when she’s told that her husband is involved in a dangerous hostage situation. But he isn’t one of the hostages. No, her husband is the gunman.
We follow along as the mystery is slowly solved and secret after secret is revealed.
💎 What Sparkled (a.k.a. The Good Stuff)
-
Characters: I find that in a lot of thrillers the characters can feel a little flat because the focus is on the plot. But Famous Last Words did not have that problem. I was able to connect with the characters and the emotions they felt through this story.
-
Writing: I am a fan of Gillian McAllister’s writing. I think it’s very good, but nothing really noteworthy stands out to me.
-
Themes: This book definitely has strong themes of family and secrets and it makes for the perfect thrilling combination.
-
Pacing: The pacing was fairly good, I think the middle may have dragged just a touch. But there was nothing that hindered my enjoyment of the book.
😬 What Gave Me Slight Pause
-
It’s a thriller, so it isn’t a new favorite for me at least, but even so, it was good for what it was.
-
I really don’t have any major gripes with this book. The one thing is the pacing like I mentioned before. The only reason I didn’t give it a higher rating is because it didn’t have that five star feeling.
Nothing deal-breaking unless you’re the pickiest of picky readers. Like I said, I really don’t have many gripes with this book, which is always a good thing.
💭 Final Thoughts (aka, Would I Loan This to a Friend?)
If they’re looking for a thriller to keep them entertained and guessing, I would recommend this.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this and I’d recommend it. It just isn’t one I’ll be reaching for when I want something to reread.
