Read if you like

A mystery where you won’t know who to trust and who’s lying.

🧠 My Brain After Reading This:

After the first time I read this, my jaw was absolutely on the floor. I would NEVER had seen that twist coming. A more astute reader might have picked up on the ending, but I for one was dumbfounded.

🌀 The Gist (No Spoilers, Pinky Promise)

So here’s the deal: We follow along with our narrator, Cadence, through multiple summers on her very wealthy family’s private island. Through the years secrets are revealed. Nothing is as it seems. And you’ll never know who’s lying to you.

💎 What Sparkled (a.k.a. The Good Stuff)

  • Characters: I enjoyed the characters for the roles that they played in the story. I would say most of them were quite self centered, and I think that was rather the point.

  • Writing: I don’t want to say too much and spoil, but after my reread, I can see how the writing fits in perfectly with the conclusion of the story. (Do with that information what you will)

  • Pacing: I would say that the pacing of this book was good. I would tend to say it was on the faster paced side of things because it is a shorter book. But you won’t hear me complaining, I love a good fast paced mystery.

😬 What Gave Me Slight Pause

  • My main thing is that the characters aren’t really what I would call likable most of the time. But I would say that fit the book very well. So it really isn’t an issue for me at least.

Nothing deal-breaking unless you’re the pickiest of picky readers.

💭 Final Thoughts (aka, Would I Loan This to a Friend?)

I would definitely recommend this book to a friend. Especially now that the TV show has released and a new sequel is coming out later this year. Now is the perfect time to read We Were Liars if you haven’t already.
